Morning Workshop from 9:30 – 11:30 – $10pp
The morning will be an opportunity to attend a technical workshop with Nicola Oddy, a well known and popular choir director extraordinaire. The workshop is open to anyone who wants to improve his/her singing, regardless of whether they are in a choir participating in the festival.
Singing in Community: The Breath, the Vowel, and Aerodynamics led by Nicola Oddy
Experience the difference it makes when the vowel shape we make creates an aerodynamic environment that enables us to project, stay in tune, increase our range and inject energy into our sound! We’ll spend the morning trying techniques for exploring the breath and vowel shape and notice the difference in the result.
To register for the workshop, email your name and contact info to firstname.lastname@example.org, You can pay $10.00 pp at the door. Make sure you register by Wednesday, April 17, 2019 so that Nicola has enough music for everyone!
Choral Festival from 12:30 – 4:00 – $50 per choir
The afternoon will be songs, songs and more songs.
Each choir will have 20 minutes to sing songs of their choosing. The Westport Arts Council is expecting to see a wide variety of music and it is sure to be a great afternoon. A panel of 3 choral experts from the area will be available to provide constructive feedback and next steps to take your choir to the next level.
Registration fee per choir for the festival is $50. To register for the festival, the Choir Director should email the name of the choir, number of singers and contact information of the choir director to email@example.com. Registration deadline: Friday, March 15, 2019.
Flash Mobs during the afternoon in downtown Westport
Ever wanted to be part of a choir flash mob? We are making arrangements with the municipality and downtown businesses so that your choir can have that opportunity! While other choirs are warming up or performing, yours can be a few blocks away putting some sass and fun into one of your favourite songs. We will have a keyboard available for you to use. Just a suggestion – the choir should know your Flash Mob selection by memory! This is going to be so much fun!
Mass Choir from 4:00 – 4:30
The festival concludes with a mass choir singing 3 selections. Once your choir has registered, you will be put in touch with the Westport Arts Council Choir Director to work out the details for the mass choir.
Music is the responsibility of each choir:
Hallelujah – Leonard Cohen, Arranged by Roger Emerson
Here’s to Song – Allister MacGillivray, arranged by Lydia Adams
You’ll Never Walk Alone with Climb ev’ry Mountain – Hammerstein & Rodgers, arranged by Mark Hayes
