Christmas Begins in Westport

WAC Christmas 2017 V2jpegKick-off the holiday season with “Christmas Begins in Westport” on Friday, 24 November, 2017 from 3pm to 8pm. Our gathering of “one-of-a-kind” vendors is not your typical outdoor Christmas market. In the heart of downtown Westport, you will find unique, creative, and handmade gifts, along with your favourite Westport boutiques with extended hours (until 8pm). We will be located beside Home Hardware on Church Street in the parking lot. Also at 5pm take part in the WAC tradition of lighting the WAC Christmas tree for the holiday season at the museum. With wagon rides, food, and drinks, you can bring the whole family for an inspiring holiday experience! And don’t forget the Lion’s Santa Parade on the Saturday, 25 November at 2pm.

WAC Supports: Canada’s 150th Competition

PrintWestport’s Own Sesquicentennial Competition – Create the Westport Brand!

Canada is turning 150 in 2017 and Westport is planning events all year.  And we want to make this our own, home grown celebration including our own 150th Branding – something that is unique to Westport.

The Mayor’s Sesquicentennial Task Force is holding a competition open to everyone, young and old, groups and individuals, school children, to create a brand that captures the uniqueness of Westport – our traditions, personality, geography, etc – as we celebrate Canada’s 150th.

Your entry must be suitable to be displayed in a variety of medium – i.e. paper, cloth, electronic and must include the Canada sesquicentennial flag somewhere in the design.

The deadline for submission is Friday, October 28 @ 4:00 p.m. and all entries become property of the Village.  Entries can be dropped off at Town Hall or emailed to Niki Bresse – nbresee@villageofwestport.ca.

Judging will occur on November 1 by a panel of judges selected from the Mayor’s Sesquicentennial Task Force.

The Prize? – the Pride of recognition and having your design displayed throughout 2017.

Westport Harbour Flag Initiative

The new Westport Harbour flag.

The new Westport Harbour flag.

The Westport Harbour is proud to unveil it’s new flag!

To help inspire a design for the new flag, WAC enlisted the help of intermediate students from across the area to help. Each school was allowed to submit three top designs that captured the spirit of the Westport Harbour in no more than 3 colours. On May 14, Roger Merkely representing the Village of Westport Council, along with two committee members of WAC, judged all submissions and selected 3 stand out designs.

The new flag is a creative collaboration of the three winning designs from Danny Crump, Emily Carlson and Colby Sweetland, all from Rideau District High School  Special thanks goes out to all students who participated and their teachers, Dan Lesser (St. Edwards), Janis Herlehy (Rideau Vista) and Evan Barr (Rideau District).
