Stories & Songs 2016

stories&Songs 2016

After heart-warming success, Stories & Songs is back for a second year. Join us at the Westport Spring throughout the summer for delightful local music and storytelling.

The Stories & The Songs

Over the past four weeks Stories & Songs has become a Sunday tradition at the Westport Spring. The complimentary coupling of music and the often-forgotten art of oral storytelling brought together impressive local talent that included 2014 Voice of the Rideau winner Stephanie Doornekamp and storyteller John Willson. The beautiful outdoor yet intimate setting of the Spring on the water’s edge in downtown Westport proved to the perfect venue that reflected the relaxed, natural and fresh spirit of the performances. Mother Nature did get the best of us one weekend with some rain but the cosy shelter of the United Church not more 100m away just seemed to add more local flavour. Attracting both residents and visitors, the success of Stories & Songs was shared with over 200 people and seemed to be the perfect way to spend a summer Sunday evening.

Sunday Evening at the Westport Spring

7-8pm FREE!

WAC is proud to present a new summer series: Stories & Songs. Featuring local musical talent and storytellers, join us at the Westport Spring on select Sunday evenings throughout the summer. Bring your chair, a coffee (or an ice cream!) and enjoy the beautiful outdoor venue while we entertain, enchant and enliven.

There is limited seating so get there or be square. In case mother nature isn’t in a good mood, the event will be moved one block away to the United Church (corner of Spring Street and Church Street).

Thanks Volunteers!

Fun, food and gratitude.

WAC warmly welcomed a large crowd at the Volunteer Appreciation Evening at The Cove last week. To the musical sounds of Stephanie Doornekamp (and a few special guests along with our winner of “The VOICE”), we all tucked into a generous spread of delicious food provided Marty Hawkins and The Cove while WAC shared their gratitude with the great many volunteers, sponsors and board members that make WAC successful.

Taking stock of the year’s events, each one would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of  so many volunteers. From the ticket sellers, fundraisers, bbq-bosses, greeters, idea-generators, t-shirt sellers, graphic designers and photographers to the stage-builders, telephone call-makers, email-repliers, drivers, cleaners, decorators, and poster putter-uppers, the success of our events and programs are from your efforts. Special thanks goes out from WAC and the Village of Westport  to Volunteer of the Year, Mrs. Marianne Roberts, who not only generously donates her time but does so with boundless energy and joy.

We also took the opportunity to shine a spotlight on our sponsors who generously gave to support the arts in all forms from our youth school programs to the ever-popular MusicWestport Festival. From individuals and families in the community to local business sponsors, we value your donations that have allowed WAC to promote and provide arts in all formats within Westport. For some of our local business sponsors and service clubs, 2014 marked five years they have been supportive of WAC and it’s their steady contributions that have allowed WAC to extend our reach in the community:

Tangled Garden

Barker Wilson Law Offices

Lower Mountain Mechanical

Seasons of Westport

Jake by the Lake

Westport Lions Club

Special thanks goes out to this year’s…

Patron of the Arts:

 Seasons of Westport

MusicWestport Main Stage Sponsor:

Jake by the Lake

…for their above and beyond contributions.

WAC also recognized the panel of board members who donate time, brain power, and multitude of skills on a regular basis to imagine and implement the various WAC programs and events throughout the year. There were so long meetings, long days, and even longer nights but it was all worth it!

Last but not least, WAC would like to thank the residents of Westport and each person who participated or attended a WAC event. Not only do we strive to bring arts in all forms to our community but we channel the funds from tickets and donations back into more events, school programs and local projects for the pleasure of Westport. And to all of those that came from here and there to enjoy and then donated through loose change or a purchase, we thank you. To all our members who took out memberships, we thank you! It was an amazing year!

With gratitude to all volunteers, sponsors, board members and supporters, 2014 was pretty awesome!
